Dalai Lama
Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck.
The 14th Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism followers.
I don't know how he explain, but I think that sometimes, when we wish something, we see the top of the iceberg, but we don't see what is under water. Usually, when we wish something, we think only about positive sides and forget about negative. Roughly speaking, if you really wish to have skiing in the mountains, but the weather to get there very bad, may be it's better to stay at home and do not get what you want, everything can happen... :)
I am sorry. Maybe, this quote is not Dalai Lama's. The original version is "Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a stroke of good luck". It is from volume 2 in Life's Little Instruction Book by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. He wrote this book as a gift for his son who was leaving home to begin his first year in college.
It is a good book for people who want to live a positive life. However, I do not totally agree with all his advice. For example, when I have read this sentence, I wonder how we can know that if not getting what we want is SOMETIMES a stroke of good luck... just SOMETIMES, and we don't know when SOMETIMES happens. Indeed, many cases which include good, neutral, and bad situations are able to occur when we do to get something. In my opinion, I think our life is too short for us to do the things we want; so, if we can do to get what we really want we should do it, provided that we don't harm other people. If we get good results, we are happy and feel lucky. If we fall into bad situations, we can get experiences, and become stronger and wiser; or, at least we have chance and rights to do what we want. It is also a strode of good luck in our life, isn't it?
How the Dalai Lama explain that not getting what we want is a chance?
